The site is there and nobody looks after it

Four sentences we hear almost every week

Almost nobody calls because they want maintenance. They call because something has already happened, or because they are worried it will.

01

Our site was built by somebody who is gone

We have no access, the passwords are with someone else, there have been no updates in two years. Nobody knows what happens if we touch anything.

02

We do not know whether it is secure

The plugins are old and backups may or may not exist. As long as something works, nobody asks what would happen if it did not.

03

Every small thing takes a week

Changing a phone number or a price waits on a vendor with other priorities. Meanwhile the site shows the wrong information.

04

It went down once and there was no backup

Restoring it took days and some of the content never came back. Since then everyone knows there should be backups, and still nobody checks them.

If one of those sounds familiar, we deal with it on the intro call: fifteen minutes, no obligation.

Price

50 EUR a month, with no hidden line items

The price covers one hour of hands-on work a month for updates and small content changes. Automated uptime monitoring and backups run alongside and do not eat into that hour. When there is more work, we agree in advance, never after the fact.

Maintenance is the one service where the scope is similar enough for everyone that we can state the price up front. For the others it depends on scope, which is why you get an itemized proposal the same or the next day after the call.

Already have a site and do not know what state it is in? You get the review even if you decide not to work with us.

What maintenance does not fix

  • It does not bring trafficthat is the job of SEO and ads
  • It does not redesign anythingthat is a new or rebuilt site
  • It does not write contentthat is copywriting
  • What it does is keep what you havesecure, fast and up to date

The basics

What website maintenance is

Website maintenance is the regular work that keeps a site secure, fast and current. It is not a one-off job but something that runs every month.

Without it a site does not stop working straight away. It ages slowly. First a backlog of updates builds up that one day cannot be cleared at once without risk. Meanwhile old plugins develop security holes that are published openly and that bots scan for automatically.

The most expensive moment arrives when a site has to be restored from a backup that does not exist. That is the single most common reason people call us for the first time.

Maintenance makes sense even for a site that rarely changes. More so, in fact, because nobody opens it regularly and a fault is only noticed once it is large.

What we do every month

  • Updatescore, plugins, theme
  • Backupsstored separately, at a frequency that suits the site
  • Uptime monitoringan alert if the site goes down
  • Content editsone hour of work a month

What maintenance does not fix

We also say what maintenance does not fix

Maintenance is not a redesign. If a site is dated in the way it was built, updating plugins will not fix that. In that case we propose a rebuild, and we say so before signing.

Maintenance is not marketing. Regular care keeps a site healthy; it does not bring traffic. That is what SEO and advertising are for.

One hour is one hour. When there is more work, we agree in advance. We never invoice for work that was never discussed.

From the review to regular care

Four steps from the review to regular care

  1. 1

    The review

We look at what is out of date, whether backups exist and where the risks are. You get this review even if you decide not to work with us.

  2. 2

    Clearing the backlog

First we catch up on what was left behind. That is a one-off job and not part of the monthly hour.

  3. 3

    Regular care

Monthly updates, backups, monitoring and small changes within the one hour.

  4. 4

    Response when something breaks

We respond to a report during our hours, every day from 9:00 to 21:00. An outage takes priority and is usually resolved within a few hours; small fixes are done the same day.

What happens when a site goes down

  1. Monitoring alerts uswithin minutes, not within a week
  2. We look at the causean update, the server, a breach
  3. We restore a backupif that is the faster route
  4. We tell you what it wasin writing, not over the phone

Why Aithena

Five reasons, and the first is that 50 euros a month costs less than one breach

Maintenance is the cheapest line item until you need it. Then it is the most expensive.

01

The price is published and does not move.

50 euros a month: one hour of work, the updates and the security. No surprises on the invoice and no hourly billing for every small thing.

02

We respond to a problem immediately.

When a site goes down or an alert appears, we respond immediately between 9:00 and 21:00 and usually clear the outage within a few hours. That is the difference between an outage your customers notice and one only we do.

03

We take over sites we did not build.

The site does not have to be ours. Taking over from a previous vendor is routine work, including when there is no documentation and the first job is finding out what is actually running.

04

The access stays yours.

The domain, the hosting and the site are in your name. Maintenance is not a way to tie you down, it is a service you can stop at any time.

05

We say when maintenance is not enough.

If a site is old enough that every month is a repair, the honest answer is a rebuild rather than endless patching. We say that plainly, even though a monthly line item would suit us better.

Send us the link to your site. We will tell you what state it is in and whether maintenance is even the right answer for you.

What you receive

For the technical side you have one vendor who is responsible.

Updates, backups and monitoring run in the background, and you know who to call when something is urgent.

01

Immediately

A review and a backup

We take a backup, check the updates and tell you where the risk is.

02

During the work

Updates and uptime monitoring

We update in controlled steps and watch whether the site is reachable.

03

At handover

A monthly report and a response

You know what was done, and the backups are there if the site has to be rolled back.

Fit

Let us also say when it is not worth it

We would rather tell you openly when a service is not right for you than have you spend money on something that will not work.

Good fit

Worth doing if

  • your site was built by somebody who is gone
  • you have no time for updates and backups
  • you want a known contact when something is urgent

Wrong timing

Wait if

  • the site is about to be rebuilt and will be archived
  • you have your own technical team already covering this
  • the hosting does not allow updates

Questions

Short and clear answers

Including the ones whose answer is not pleasant. If we judge that maintenance is not worth it, we say so before signing.

The regular work that keeps a website secure, fast and current. In practice: core and plugin updates, backups, uptime monitoring, fixing faults, and editing the site when the content changes. Without it a site does not stop working straight away, it ages quietly until one day it cannot be updated without risk, or until somebody else takes it over.

With us, 50 EUR a month: one hour of hands-on work for updates and small changes, with automated monitoring and backups running alongside and not eating into that hour. If there is more work, we agree in advance rather than after the fact. The price is published because maintenance is the one service where the scope is similar enough for everyone to state it up front. Indicative prices for every service are published on the price list.

At first nothing visible. Then a backlog of updates builds up that can no longer be cleared at once without risking breaking the site. Meanwhile security holes appear in old plugins, published openly and scanned for automatically by bots. The most expensive moment is when a site has to be restored after a breach from a backup that does not exist.

We respond to a report during our hours, every day from 9:00 to 21:00. An outage takes priority and is usually resolved within a few hours; small fixes are done the same day. With an outage the first hour matters most, because that is while we still know what changed just before it.

Yes. We fit the maintenance to the plugins in use, the hosting and the theme. On WordPress most of the work is in the plugins, because they update often and each one can break something else.

Yes, taking over from another vendor is routine work for us. First we run a review and record what is out of date, and only then take on the regular care. If we judge the site is not in a state worth maintaining, we say so before signing.

Yes, and more so. A site that does not change is one nobody opens regularly, so faults and outdated plugins are only noticed once the problem is already large.

Access to the site and to the hosting. If you do not have it, we help you recover it, which is common with sites built by somebody who can no longer be reached.

Book a call

Tell us where you are and we will set up a call

The intro call takes about fifteen minutes. We look at your situation and say what is worth doing first.

You receive an itemized proposal the same or by the next business day at the latest after the call, not a week later with different numbers. If we judge that the service is not worth it for you, we say so before the proposal.

  • We reply every day, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Central European Time (3 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern)
  • No lock-in and no subscription to talk
